What Causes Cataracts?

There are multiple circumstances that can cause cataracts including genetic, injury or having a medical disorder such as diabetes. This eye disorder is more prevalent in adults 40 years of age or older effecting 17% of people in this demographic and is steadily becoming an increasing issue with our ageing population.

How Are Cataracts Treated?

Cataracts are treated using different methods dependent on the severity of individual cases. For instance, initial treatments may consists of vision corrective means such as using glasses and/or contact lenses. However, as the condition worsens the only recommended solution is replacing the effected lens with a clear artificial lens through surgery. There are however some reports that suggest eye drops containing an enzyme called Lanosterol may help clear up the protein build up of the natural lens causing the blurred and cloudy vision.
